I tried to borrow a friend's disc and it won't work either because he doesn't have that cpu anymore (he has an XP SP 2 disc). I have only the SP3 from my Dell cpu and it doesn't work with VMWare. Also, if you have any Windows disc you have to have the product key on the computer too that the software came with.
Very pleased with everything. Item ordered was received in a timely manner. It worked perfectly on my iMac.
One frustration is that you can't (as far as I know) move the toolbar to another location on the screen, so I have to move my dock to the side of the screen to be able to access the toolbar. The Windows side does seem to run a little slow, but it's Windows. So I am actually running version 2.
I think it's mostly a pretty intuitive program. Overall, I like the program and I am happy with the purchase. It doesn't seem to slow down my mac much, although I haven't done too much with it at this point.
First off, I purchased this version because it is cheaper than version 2 and you can upgrade to version 2 for free on the company's website. I think that's usually after I have ran VMware fusion. You'll probably want to check out the manuals on the website to answer some random questions.
It is quite creepy to see the toolbar on my mac in the unity mode. Another weird thing is that sometimes my Windows drive on my mac desktop disappears.
Get it. VMware Fusion was very easy to install and works right out of the box. I had absolutely no problems.
One would think hanging onto the funds a bit longer would mean more interest earned.* If your Mac crashes while your guest is open, be prepared to recover the guest disk image from backup.* Adequate guest performance requires a substantial amount of host memory if you plan on running Mac native apps as well. I bought this for my work MacBook so that I could continue to run a few essential XP applications.Pros:* Seamless XP App integration with Unity* Free upgrade to 2.x* Downloadable utility to import your old Windows PC image saves a ton of reinstall work.* Plenty of available VMware images containing Open Source OS's available to tinker with.Cons:* Watch the fine print on the rebate - I sent mine in > 30 days later and the request was denied.
